Bo Welch was born on November 30, 1951, as Robert W. Welch III in Yardley, Pennsylvania, U.S. He is 69 years old at the time of this writing. He is of American nationality and belongs to a white ethncity. 

He is the only child of his parents. His mother worked as a cashier at a local supermarket and his father worked as a firefighter. Since his childhood days, he was interested to become an actor.

A native of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Welch is a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Architecture.  

Career

Bo Welch began working professionally as a production designer in the mid-'80s. He made his feature debut with Steven Spielberg's 1985 coming-of-age period drama The Color Purple. He received an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design. He has received three consecutive Oscar nominations, namely for the movies A Little Princess (1995), The Birdcage (1996), and Men in Black (1997).

Besides that, he has been a production/art designer for blockbuster movies like Ghostbusters II, Men in Black II, Land of the Lost, Thor, and Men in Black 3.

Welch made his directorial debut in 2000 and helped direct episodes of TV shows like Secret Agent Man and The Tick. His feature film directorial debut was the critically-panned 2003 fantasy-comedy The Cat in the Hat

Bo Welch has also collaborated with the seminal filmmaker Tim Burton on his movies Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), and Batman Returns (1992).

Bo Welch has been married for nearly three decades to the Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara. O'Hara is an eminent film and television actress who has won numerous awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards. She is known for TV shows like Schitt's Creek, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Six Feet Under; as well as movies like For Your Consideration, Home Alone, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Welch first met Catherine while filming the Tim Burton 1988 fantasy-comedy movie Beetlejuice with Burton playing the matchmaker. They tied the knot on April 25, 1992, and have been together now for 28 years. They have two sons together: Matthew Welch (born in 1994) and Luke Welch (born in 1997).
