Bethany Joy Lenz was born on 2nd April 1981 in Hollywood, Florida, in the US. Lenz is the daughter of George Lenz and Catharine Malcolm Holt Shepard. She is the only child of her parents. Her father is a history teacher as well as a therapist while her mother is a personnel manager and entrepreneur.
Lenz holds an American nationality and ethnicity wise, she has a mixed ethnical background as she is of German, Australian, German and Irish descent. Her grandfather was a singer. Lenz followed her grandfather’s footsteps and began singing when she was three years old at the church The Carpenter’s Church in Lakeland, Florida.
When Lenz was seven years old her family shifted to Arlington in Texas. There she attended Pope Elementary school. In the school, she took tap, jazz, theater, dance, and acting classes too. Bethany Joy Lenz started her first professional drama series Swans Crossing during her trip to Los Angeles. When she was seventeen years old she acted on the CBS Daytime soap opera named Guiding Light. During the end of a two-year contract with The Guiding Light, she grabbed the opportunity to leave her role as Michelle Bauer Santos and then moved to Los Angeles from New York City.
Lenz acted in many films and television series. Her films include Psalty’s Salvation Celebration (1992), I Love You, I Love You Not (1996), Thinner (1996), End of August (2000), Bring It On Again (2004), Just Yell Fire: Campus Life (2011), The Christmas Secret (2014).
Lenz has also landed a number of breakout roles in many television programs including 1973 (1998), The Guiding Light (1998-2000), Off Centre (2001), May Be Its Me (2002), The Guardian (2003), One Tree Hill (2003-2012) etc.
Due to exit from Guiding Light Lenz complete a demo of original music. Because she was trained by the director of The Brooklyn College of opera she writes her own music, plays piano and guitar. She had released her first album named Preincarnate in 2002 October.
After recording When the Stars Go Blue in 2005 with Tyler Hilton, they joined The Wreckers and Gavin DeGraw for a tour 25-city North America One Tree Hill which started in Vancouver. During on tour, Lenz recorded her second independent song named Come On Home. Despite her hectic schedule, Lenz recorded her first music video for Songs in My Pocket.
In 2006, Lenz recorded Halo with ex-American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi which was released in the second volume of One Tree Hill Soundtrack. In the same year, Lenz traveled to Los Angeles to record and write various songs for soundtrack named Ten Inch Hero.
In 2008, Lenz formed a new band named Everly. In 2012 November she joined a band Wakey! Wakey! She also joined other singers at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City for BTF Concerts: Rock The Schools 2012. Lenz sold 9 songs CD named Then Slowly Grows at the concert. In the year 2013, Lenz released her first full-length studio album under the title Your Woman as an independent release on her blog.
In spring 2015, Lenz played the role of Zoe in the comedy-drama television series The Catch alongside Mireille Enos, Peter Krause, Alimi Ballard, and Jay Hayden. In 2017, she featured in the thriller movie Extortion and in science-fiction drama TV series Colony. The following year, she appeared as a Jenny in Grey's Anatomy.
