Canadian actor and television personality Antoni Porowski is notable for his role as the food and wine expert on the Emmy award-winning television series Queer Eye. Starting an acting career from a 2008 movie The Diary, Porowski has worked in numerous films and television series.
Early Life And Education
Antoni Porowski was born in Montreal, Quebec on March 14, 1984, to Polish parents. His parents immigrated to Canada with his two older sisters. When he was 12, his parents relocated to Glade Springs, West Virginia and lived there and Montreal throughout his high school years. He was fluent in Polish, English, Spanish, and French since his childhood. Porowski holds Canadian nationality and belongs to Caucasia ethnicity.
After his high school, he settled in Montreal where he attended Marianopolis College and later enrolled at Concordia University. He received a Bachelor's degree in Creative Arts from the university. Then, he moved to New York and studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater.
After graduation, he taught himself to cook by referring to his grandmother's cooking techniques.
Porowski said being Polish made it difficult for him to get roles. He started his acting journey from 2008 short film The Diary, in which he played the role of Eric. In 2010, Porowski made his television debut as Lacrosse Player in an episode "LAX" of Blue Mountain State.
Porowski has worked in the movies such as Elliot Loves, Daddy's Boy, and The Pretenders. On the other side, his television credits include The Blacklist, Queer Eye, Nailed It!, and Don't Watch This.
In December 2017, Netflix announced Porowski as the food and wine expert in the Netflix revival of Queer Eye. The show has been one of his most notable work so far. He also won the Emmy Award for the show in 2018.
Porowski signed a deal with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for his first cookbook in April 2018. His book is set to publish in Spring 2019. Meanwhile, Porowski was featured in Taylor Swift's You Need to Calm Down music video that was released on June 17, 2019.
