Early Life And Career Of Alfreð Finnbogason

Alfreð Finnbogason was born on February 1, 1989, in Grindavik, Iceland. At the age of  6, he played for his hometown, Grindavik's youth team. He moved to Edinburgh for two years as his father studied in the city. While he played for Hutchison Vale, he became of fan of Hibernian.

From 2002-2005, he played for Fjolnir and then played for Breiðablik till 2007. While he was an exchange student in Sardinia, Italy in 2007, he played for Sassari Torres. As part of the club, he defeated the Italy U-17 national team. While in the youth squad of Breiðablik, he played alongside future international players like  Aron Jóhannsson, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Gylfi Sigurðsson, Elfar Freyr Helgason, Guðmundur Kristjánsson, Kristinn Steindórsson and Kristinn Jónsson.

Alfreð Finnbogason's Senior Career

Finnbogason was promoted from Breiðablik youth club to the senior squad and debuted in 2008. He netted 13 goals for the club in 18 Urvalsdeild league game in 2009 for which his teammates named him Player of the Year. The same year the club won the Icelandic Cup. He made a total of 43 appearances scoring 28 goals. One of his best season for Breiðablik came in 2010 as he became a joint league top goalscorer with 14 goals. His performance earned him the Player of the Year title and also led his team to their first ever UEFA Europa League match.

On April 19, 2013, he broke the record of most goals scored in a season by an Icelandic footballer playing in a top division in any country after netting his 24th goal.

As of 2018, he plays for German football club FC Augsburg.  He initially played on a loan for the club which was made permanent after his great performance, the first goal in his third came later in 14 games netted seven goals. In 2017 season he scored two hat-tricks one in September against FC Koln and other in December against SC Freiburg.  

Alfreð Finnbogason's International Career

Finnbogason played in the Under 21 level. His first international goal came on September 8, 2009, in a 2011 UEFA European Under 21 Football Championship qualifiers against Nother Ireland at The Showgrounds, Coleraine, Northern Ireland.

He debuted for the senior team coming on as a substitute in a friendly against the Faroe Islands. He made the first team debut in a 3-2 loss against Israel and he also scored a goal in the game.

Iceland qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2018 and in their first match against Argentina, he scored the equalizer, his first ever goal in the World Cup
