  • Mallek Lawal, 10, died from an allergic reaction to a McDonald peri peri chicken wrap.
  • Lawal who was allergic to milk, egg, nuts, and fish started to suffer just 10 minutes after he took the snack.
  • Lawal was homeless and had been staying on the streets of Dublin with his mother and two siblings.
  • His mother, Rukawat Lawal, moved to Ireland from Nigeria in 2006 when she was pregnant with Maleek.

A 10-year-old Dublin homeless boy died of an allergic reaction to a McDonald's chicken wrap in 2016. Maleek Lawal's mother brought him a wrap to take his mind off being on the streets on October 7.

Unfortunately, Lawal fell ill within minutes after eating the chicken wrap at the Ilac Center restaurant in Dublin.

His mother, Rukawat Lawal told the Coroner's Court that Maleek loved McDonald products and she brought the wrap for him and his siblings to "keep them happy."

She further told that Maleek was allergic to fish, milk, eggs, and nuts, but had no problem eating nuggets or hamburgers from the food chain. Rukawat said,

He was a beautiful, playful boy. He loved to read. My heart is truly broken for him.

Mail Online reported, the family, which shifted to Dublin from Nigeria in 2006 while she was pregnant with Maleek, were struggling to find a residence and staying on the street with her three kids.

In that day, the mother went to a McDonald store with her little daughter, leaving her two sons at home. She told,

We were homeless, with nobody helping us, we were on our own and I was looking for a way to get out of emergency accommodation. I was looking for a way to keep the children happy.

She added,

Sometimes I felt so bad for him, so sad for him, that when he asked for something I had to give it to him.

She continued saying Maleek started to complain he was having pain in his stomach just 10 minutes after eating. Then, he reportedly went to the toilet and yelled: "Mam I'm feeling weak, I can't walk." Then the mother took him to the nearby barber shop crying for help.

The Dublin Fire Brigade responded the emergency call shortly before 6 in the evening and rushed the child to Temple Street Hospital after finding him unconscious, where he was pronounced dead by 7.

After the hearing, the Coroner's Court urged the parents to know about their children's health condition and to check the ingredients of the food before giving it to their allergic kids.
