Golden Globe Nominated Actor R. Lee Ermey Dies At 74-His Manager Announced In A Statement

Former Marine Corps instructor, R. Lee Ermey, popularly known for his role of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in 1987 movie Full Metal Jacket has passed away. He was aged 74.

Ermey's long-time manager Bill Rogin announced the death of the actor in a statement on Twitter and announced he died due to complications from pneumonia.

Rogin also released a statement issued on Facebook which read:

He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever.

The US Army also took to Twitter to tribute Lee where they wrote, "Rest In Peace, Gunny. We are grateful for your service to our country and for supporting our servicemembers. Semper Fi.''

Lee was born Ronald Lee Ermey in 1944, in Emporia, Kansas served US Marine Corps for 11 years and spent 14 months in Vietnam and Okinawa, Japan where he became a staff sergeant. He first worked as a helicopter pilot in Apocalypse Now followed by The Boys in Company C.
