Free Willy actor Jason James Richter has been sentenced to four days in prison for misdemeanor and domestic violence following he reached a plea deal to his October arrest for misdemeanor domestic violence.
The LA City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan told that Richter was charged with two misdemeanors following an altercation with his girlfriend.
Mateljan told,
We field two misdemeanor counts against him, one is for battery on a significant other that did not cause injury and a second count of vandalism. 18 months is the maximum exposure for both counts.
He further said,
There was a physical altercation between them and at some point he allegedly kicked in the door and that is where the vandalism charge comes from.
According to court doc u ments obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Richter pleaded no contest to the vandalism charge on November 29, however, he was found guilty.
Later, the charge was thrown out after Richter's plea negotiation, in which he changed his plea in relation to the vandalism charge from guilty to no contest. Further, Richter denied having a s saulted his ex-girlfriend ever. He said,
I accidentally broke a door lock and plead no contest to vandalism. I was ordered to pay for the floor (a total of $24). This situation is deeply embarra s sing and upsetting. I am grateful for the support from my family, friends and fans through this tough time.
In addition to the four days' sentence, Richter has been ordered to enroll in a one-year domestic violence treatment program.
