The Oscar-nominated and Tony Award-winning actress Barbara Harris died at the age of 83 on Tuesday, 21st August in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Chicago Sun-Times reported the actress died of lung cancer.
Harris' close friend Charna Halpern, a co-founder of the iO Theater in Chicago announced the death on Tuesday.
Harris began her career in acting after she co-founded the Second City comedy troupe in Chicago, Illinois. She debuted in the first ever show of the now world-famous group.
Harris was honored the best actress by Tony Award for her roles as Eve, Pa s sionella, and Princess Barbara in The Apple Tree. The earlier roles earned her two other nominations in Tony Awards including the Best Featured actress nod for From the Second City and for Best Actress nod for On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
Harris was equally successful in the silver-screen. She received an Oscar nomination for supporting actress for her role as Allison Densmore in Who is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me? The roles also brought her four Golden Globes nominations.
Harris landed with the most promising role in 1975 when she worked as Albuquerque in Nashville, Altman's kaleidoscopic tale of the country music business. She was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
