Two Earthquakes Hit Off Northern California Coast-Authorities Declines Tsunami Risks

A magnitude 4.6 mild earthquake stroke off the coast of Northern California near Eureka Thursday morning at around 9:24.

Another shock of 4.6 magnitudes hit Thursday evening near the same epicenter at around 8:09, confirmed the USGS.

The USGS reported that the first wave hit about eight miles west of Humboldt Hill and approximately 11 miles from Eureka while the second quake struck about 29 miles southwest of Eureka.

According to the National Tsunami Warning Center, no tsunami was expected as a result of two quakes.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) had previously stated that the first quake was a 4.5 magnitude before reconfirming it to a 4.6 magnitude.

In January, a shallow 5.8 magnitude earthquake has shaken the off coast of Northern California where more than five earthquakes and several aftershocks were recorded on the day.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the epicenter was recorded about 100 miles off Northern California's Lost Coast.
