Tig Notaro was born as Mathilde O'Callaghan Notaro on March 24, 1971, in Jackson, Mississippi, US. She is the daughter of Pat Notaro and Mathilde Susie O'Callaghan. She spent her early years in Pa s s Christian, Mississippi but, later on, her family moved to Spring, Texas. Notaro has an older brother, Renaud Notaro, who is a radio talk show host. Renaud was the one who gave her the nickname "Tig" when she was two years old.

Notaro hated school so she dropped out of high school. However, she received her GED (General Educational Development), which is equivalent to the US or Canadian High School-Level Academic Skills in 1990. Since childhood, she was an avid music lover. She played the guitar and the drums and was part of several bands in her childhood.

Tig Notaro is a married woman. She walked down the aisle with her lover, Stephanie Allynne on October 24, 2015. They had met on the set of the movie, In a World... and engaged on January 1, 2015. Notaro and her wife have twin sons, Finn Notaro and Max Notaro, born in 2016. The kids were born through a surrogate using her wife's eggs. 

On July 30, 2012, Tig Notaro was diagnosed with breast cancer. She revealed her diagnosis during her live stage show at Largo in Los Angeles on August 3. Notaro did a double mastectomy and also opted out of chemo. She continued treatment with hormone-blocking. In 2015, she had to be hospitalized for the surgery of a cyst. Two years later, she became a vegan. She revealed that this diet helped her eliminate chronic pain.

Tig started her career in the mid-90s where she worked as a band manager. In the late-90s, she did her very first stand up. In 2006, she appeared as Leigh Roy in Dog Bites Man, and three years later, she was seen as Rhoda in the TV series, In the Motherhood. Her self appearance in The Sarah Silverman Progam spanned 3 years from 2007 to 2010. Besides such, her other works include Clarence, One Mississippi, Dog Days, Lucy in the Sky, Transparent, and Star Trek: Discovery. Her new appearances include Other Plans, Army of the Dead, Togetherish, and Music. 

Now talking about her discography credits, she released her first album, Good One (Secretly Canadian) in 2011. A year later, she released Live. In 2013, the deluxe edition of Live was released. She has also released albums like Boyish Girl Interrupted and Happy To Be Here. In 2016, she released an audiobook, I'm Just a Person Unabridged. From her career, she has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards and also the Grammys. 

In addition to this, Tig has also been a part of the Professor Blastoff w/ Kyle Dunnigan and David Huntsberger podcast from 2011 to 2015. She also has her own book, I'm Just a Person, published in 2016.
