Synopsis
Taraji Penda Henson was born on September 11, 1970. She was born in Washington, D.C, U.S. she is an American actress and singer.
She is the daughter of Bernice Gordon who was a corporate manager at Woodward &Lothrop and Boris Henson who professionally was a janitor and fabricator. Her name was put in from Swahili origin. Her first name “Taraji” means hope and middle name “Penda” means love. She mostly spent summers in Sub-urban Southern Maryland at her grandparent’s house.
Early Life and Education
She went to Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She took a major in Electrical Engineering at NC A&T. Later, she transferred to Howard University.
She worked very hard between her two jobs to pay for Howard University. In the morning she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon and as a waitress on The Odyssey Cruise Line at night. Her hard work paid off and she won the Triple Threat Award graduating with a degree in Theater Arts.
Career
In 2005 Henson appeared in the film Four Brothers and Talk to Me and Smokin’ Aces in 2007, The Family that preys in 2008 and Hurricane Seasons in 2009. She was cast opposite to Brad Pitt in the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Henson has also appeared in many TV shows like Divison and ABC’s Boston Legal for just a season. She did guest appearances on the WB Television Network’s Smart Guy, the Fox Series House, and CBS’s Crime Scene Investigation.
In 2011 she appeared in an episode of Sister, Sister .she was also taken as a cast of Person of Interest which is a CBS Crime Suspense series. In the movie Hustle & Flow, she made her singing debut providing the vocals for the Three 6 Mafia track “It’s Hard Out Here for a pimp”. She has also contributed a record called “In My Daughter’s Eyes” on the album Unexpected Dreams- Songs from the Stars.
The album was out in 2006 for a charitable purpose. Henson has appeared in music videos as well. She was in the rapper Common’s music video. She is a member of PETA. She appeared nude in an advertisement for the ‘I’d Rather Be Naked Than Wear Fur campaign’ in January 2011.
She starred in the film Think Like a Man based on Steve Harvey’s book Act like a Lady, Think Like a Man. She will also cast in the 2014 sequel of the movie too. She once again joined PETA again the 2013 campaign with the theme “Be an Angel for Animals”.
Personal Life
She has a son named Marcel who was born in 1994 from her high school sweetheart who was murdered in 1997.
She is an American and her ethnic identity is African- American.
Henson is 1.65 m tall and looks hot in her dark complexion. She weighs 66 kg. Her body measurements are 34-25-33 and she has brown eyes.

Awards
For her role as ‘Queenie’ in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, she received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. That was in the year 2009. She has won other prestigious awards like Bet Awards and has been nominated for several of other Awards.
