Famous with the name Slim PickensLouis Burton Lindley Jr. was an American actor as well as a rodeo performer. He is mostly remembered for his a role in  Blazing Saddles and Dr. Strangelove. During his career, he mostly appeared in the part of a cowboy. 

Early Life, Bio, and Education Of Slim Pickens

Slim Pickens was born  Louis Burton Lindley Jr on June 29, 1919, in Kingsburg, California, the USA. He was born to Louis Bert Lindley Sr. (father) and Sally Mosher (mother). He grew up along with his brother, Samuel T. Lindley who is famously known as Easy Pickens

Regarding his education, he graduated from Hanford High School in Hanford, California. 

Slim Pickens' Early and Professional Career

Early Career

Slim Pickens started his first horse ride at the age of four and later on, became an extraordinary rider. Although his father didn't like horse riding, he developed his interest in horse riding. He changed his name from Louis Burton Lindley Jr. to Slim Pickens just so that his father couldn’t find out about his participation. 

Once he said that,

'My father was against rodeoing and told me he didn't want to see my name on the entry lists ever again. While I was fretting about what to call myself, some old boy sittin' on a wagon said, 'Why don't you call yourself Slim Pickens, 'cause that's shore what yore prize money'll be.

Professional Career

Slim Pickens was always remembered as a skilled horse rider and bucking bulls rider. After a long career in rodeo, he went to acting in 1946. He made his first appearance in the movie, Smoky, which became a super hit. 

In 1950, he was noticed by the American actor as well as a director, William Keighley at a rodeo which helped him to play the role of Plank in Rocky Mountain

Later on, he appeared in several movies including The Last Musketeer, Iron Mountain Trail, One-Eyed Jacks, Beyond the Poseidon Adventure.

He has also contributed his voice to some movies including, Seekers of the Fleece, Silver Dollar City, and The Black Hole

Slim Pickens' Personal Life

Slim Pickens was married to his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Harmon. The duo shared their wedding vows on March 22, 1950. Since their marriage and until the death of Slim Pickens, the couple was living very happily. 

Together the couple shared three children: Thomas Michael Lindley, Margaret Louise Wittman, and Daryle Ann Lindley Giardino

Death

The former American rodeo performer, as well as an actor, Slim Pickens dies at the age of 37 on December 8, 1983, in Modesto, California, USA. He was survived by his family member, which includes his wife and three children.

He suffered from the brain tumor in his last year and also went through a surgery in San Francisco. Later on, he suffered from pneumonia, which took his life.
