Susan Alexandra Weaver, popular as Sigourney Weaver is an American actress famous for her roles in films since the 1980s, including "Ghost Busters", "Working Girl" and "Alien". Weaver was nominated for three Academy Award 'BAFTA Award' and 'Golden Globe Award'.

Early Life And Education Of Sigourney Weaver

Susan Weaver was born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8,  1949, in Manhattan, New York under the zodiac sign Libra. Her father Sylvester Weaver was a president of NBC Television. Her mother Elizabeth Inglish was an American actress. Weaver grew up in the entertainment business. She had been calling herself Sigourney at the age of 14, after discovering the name in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

In 1962, her family moved to San Francisco which was an unpleasant experience for her because she was not ready to move out. But soon they moved back to Connecticut where she attended the Ethel Walking School which is a girl's preparatory school in Simsbury, Connecticut.  Weaver also attended The Chapin School and The Brearley School.

When she was 13, Weaver's parents sent her to see a psychiatrist to deal with her uncommunicative personality, however, Weaver told that she never visited a psychiatrist and was a normal teenager.

After completion of her school years, she enrolled at California's Stanford University. While attending University in California, she realized that her true dream was to become an actress.

In 1972, she graduated with a B.A in English from Stanford University. After graduation, Weaver moved back to Connecticut and studied acting at Yale Drama School from where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in 1974.

Sigourney Weaver Career

Weaver started her career in 1977 with a Woody Allen Movie Annie Hall where she played a minor role opposite Allen. In 1979, Weaver received a role of Warrant Officer, Ellen Ripley in the blockbuster movie Alien. The movie was a blockbuster hit and spawned three sequels where she reprised her role.

In 1998, Weaver was starred in Gorillas in the Mist and in Working Girl which received her a Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for Gorillas in the Mist and Best Supporting Actress in Working Girl.

Weaver has appeared in many movies, playing small and supporting roles in some of them, such as Jeffrey and The Ice Storm which earned her a Golden Globe nomination and a won a BAFTA Award.

Weaver was even the narrator of the American Version of the series Planet Earth. Weaver has also worked as a voice-over artist for many animated blockbuster movies like Pixar's and Disney's Wall-E.

Weaver reunited with Director James Cameron (director of an alien) for a 2009 movie Avatar. She played a major role as Dr. Grace Augustine, leader of the AVTR (avatar) program on the film's fictional moon Pandora.

In 2010, Weaver was seen in the Spanish thriller film Red Lights for which she was honored at the 2010 Scream Awards which recognized her work in science fiction.

In 2015, Weaver played the role of Alexandra Reid, the female antagonist in the movie The Defenders

Weaver has played some outstanding roles in her career for which she has been nominated for the Academy Awards four times. Weaver has also been nominated for three BAFTA awards out of which she has won one award for Best Supporting Actress for The Ice Storm in 1997.

In 1988, Weaver won Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress and Best Actress in supporting role for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl. Weaver has also received Glamor Woman of the Year Award in 2002 and Glamour Award for Icons 2016.

Sigourney Weaver Personal Life

Weaver has been married to stage director Jim Simpson, who is six years younger to her, since October 1, 1984. The couple has one daughter, Charlotte Simpson. Weaver is living a happy married life with her husband and daughter in New York City.

She was in a relationship with a local reporter Aaron Latham in 1967. They soon got engaged but they called off their engagement shortly after.

Weaver became an honorary chairwoman of The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund after she was starred in Gorillas in the Mist. Weaver was honored by the Explorers Club for her environmental work and is considered to be an environmentalist.

Weaver is a longtime friend of Jamie Lee Curtis, with whom she starred in the romantic comedy You Again in 2010.
