Shereen Nanjiani is a radio presenter for BBC Radio Scotland. Before her career as a radio show host, the veteran TV personality was the chief news anchor at the STV Central. Nanjiani is the first Scots Asian as well as the longest services presenter at STV.
Early Life
Shereen Nanjiani was born on 4th October 1961 in Elderslie, Scotland, United Kingdom. She was brought up in Paisley. Her father was a Pakistani eye surgeon whereas her mother was a teacher from England.
Shereen attended John Neilson Institution in Paisley. After that, she went to Glasgow University and from there completed her graduation with an MA in Philosophy.
Nanjiani holds Scottish nationality and is of mixed ethnicity as she is one part Pakistani. The Pakistani-American comedian Kumail Nanjiani is her second cousin.
Career
In the late 1970s, Shereen Nanjiani worked on a Hospital Radio in Paisley for a short period. There she used to read some local news cuttings which she gathered during the week.
In 1983, she got a job in STV as a trainee journalist. She got the opportunity to present her first bulletin when Sheena McDonald, the news presenter of STV was ill in 1987.
Nanjiani hosted a number of programs for the STV like the religious affairs series Eikon and Secret Scotland. She has also hosted many editions of Scottish Politician of the Year Awards on the network. Shereen along with her colleagues Sarah Heaney and Jane Lewis accepted voluntary redundancy ( resigning from a post voluntarily after being offered some financial incentives) from the STV on 16th February 2006.
It was announced that Nanjiani was switching sides to BBC on 20th June 2006. She made her debut on 11th August as a radio presenter. At the BBC Scotland, Shereen kicked her radio career at the helm of lunchtime program named Scotland Live. She presented the program every Friday.
Currently, Shereen Nanjiani presents a live topical news and current affairs program. The program broadcasts on BBC Radio Scotland. The show used to air every Sunday morning at 9 am, but now it is moved to 10 am on Saturday morning.
