He also worked in San Francisco, at the KPIX-TV. A weekly syndicated program, Ron Magers Electric Impressions was also hosted by him. He was then hired as the main anchor for the KSTP-TV starting from 1974 to 1981. He has also been involved in the Twin Cities newscasts.
Magers anchored the WMAQ-TV, 5, 6, and 10 pm newscasts from 1981-1997 and has also worked in WLS starting from 1998. He co-anchors the 10 pm broadcasts and he was removed from the job during the recession of 2009-10. He was rehired later and continues working there.
Owing to his work in the radio and television fraternity, Magers has won several awards and nominations. He has won six Chicago Emmy Awards and also the Peter Lisagor Award.
He has also won the National Press Club citation and has also won the Associated Press Award, Ohio State Award, Illinois Broadcasters Association Award as well as the Ethics Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
