Roger Guenveur Smith was born on 27th of July, 1955 in Berkeley, California, United States of America. His father Sherman Smith was a judge and his mother Helen Guenveur was a dentist. He grew up in Berkeley. To receive early education, he attended Occidental College in Los Angles.
Career and path
After graduating from Occidental College, Roger Guenveur Smith joined Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut to receive further education.
Roger Guenveur Smith professional acting career took off since Roger Guenveur Smith since the mid-1980s. He appeared in the role of Pinter, Ionesco, Shakespeare, and Dickens in Minneapolis and at the New Shakespeare festival. His films include Poetic Justice; Do the Right Thing, King of New York, Panther, Malcolm X, School Daze, He Got Game, Summer of Sam and Eve’s Bayou. He has a recurring role in the 1990s film A Different world.
Roger Guenveur Smith received an Obie Award for his one-man theater performance based on the life of Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton. He wrote and produced it himself. It was later filmed by Spike Lee and released in the year 2001. He had a starring role in the Steven George Clooney TV series K-Street on HBO.
His amazing voice talent provided him with the opportunity to read in the HBO doc u mentary, Unchained Memories: Reading from the Slave Narratives. It was a doc u mentary film based on interviews conducted by the WPA in the 1930s with formerly enslaved African Americans. Roger Guenveur Smith himself is an African-American. Moreover, he was also the voice of Bao-Dur in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II The Sith Lords. Talking about his acting diversity, he also appeared in the role of a corrupt detective in the film Fist of the Warrior.

Roger Guenveur Smith married Carolina Smith as his first wife. The couple remained as husband and wife for more than a decade but unfortunately, they got divorced. Their divorce was a controversy but the unfaithful behavior of Roger Guenveur Smith to have an extra marital affair is believed to be the reason behind it. He remained single for a long time after his first divorce. The couple even had a daughter.
It was even rumored that he is a gay just because he remained single for a long time but he later denied all such rumors. Now, he has three small children with his partner Le Tania Kirkland.
