Introduction

Pooja was born on February 24, 1972,  in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She is from Gujarati-speaking Bhatt family. Pooja Bhatt is a Daughter of Mahesh Bhatt, a film producer, and Kiran Bhatt. She is of Kashmiri Pandit descent on her father's side.

She has Scottish, Armenian and Burmese ancestry on her mother's side. She is the stepdaughter of Soni Razdan, an actress. She has a brother, Rahul Bhatt, and stepsisters, Shaheen and Alia.

Her cousin Mohit Suri is a film screenwriter-director. Emraan Hashmi is another famous cousin who is a Bollywood actor.

Career

Bhatt was 17 when she made her acting debut, in 1989 in a TV film directed by her father, Mahesh Bhatt. In the film, she portrayed a soul-searching teenage girl in an estranged relationship with her alcoholic father, played by actor Anupam Kher.

Pooja’s biggest hit and her big screen with Aamir Khan came as a musical hit, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. The film was a remake of the Oscar-winning Hollywood cla s sic "It Happened One Night." Pooja received the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for this movie.

Pooja's most popular films in the 1990s included Sadak, Junoon, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin. She has also done the role of Tamanna, a super-hit and multi-starer Border and Zakhm on the late 1990s. Her most notable film in the 1990s was Chaahat where she starred alongside Shahrukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.

Pooja's  last film appearance was in 2001.Pooja has since focused on producing and directing. She made her directorial debut with Paap in 2004, starring John Abraham and Udita Goswami. Since then, she has done two more directorial ventures, Holiday and Dhokha.
She has also appeared in a doc u mentary titled 'Sunset Bollywood (2005)' in which she talks about yesteryear heart-throb Rahul Roy.

Slender & good-looking, this Piscean has launched her very own production company 'Pooja Bhatt Productions' during 1996 and released 'Tamanna' under its banner. The off-beat story is about an orphan brought up by a eunuch. Unfortunately, this movie did not do well at the box office.

Personal life

On 24 August 2003, Pooja was married to her long-time boyfriend and a former popular VJ of Indian music channel, Channel V, also known as, The Udham Singh Show, Manish Makhija. Manish now owns a restaurant-bar in Goa. They got married in August 2003 just after two months of dating.

Pooja ended her relationship with Manish Makhija in 2014. They ended their marriage after 11 years of being together. The reason for the divorce was not because of the third person but was known to be irreconcilable differences. Some even believe that the couple might have broken as hey were childless.

Previously, Pooja was rumored to have linked up with the other stars like Bobby Deol and Fardeen Khan. She was also attracted towards Amir Khan during the set of Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi.

In 2016, Some of the news came in the media claiming that the actress was dating Asif Azim. Asif is a Bangladeshi model who even appeared in Big Boss. They both are single and are rumored to be dating each other. 

Controversies

Pooja Bhatt was a major controversy when she and her father Mahesh Bhatt kissed each other on the lips for a magazine photo shoot. There is no explanation available for the act.
