Ryan Newman Hospitalized After a Serious Car Crash

  • Ryan Newman was injured after having a serious car crash at the Daytona 500.
  • He has been at Halifax Medical Center.
  • He had the accident just days after he called it quits with his wife Krissie Newman.

Ryan Newman, a Nascar race car driver, was hospitalized after having a serious car crash at the Daytona 500 in Florida on Monday, February 17.

He got in a severe wreck while entering the final lap of the green-white-checker finish. His car hit a wall, went airborne and then flipping on the track several times.

According to CBS Sports, the Indiana native, 42, was rushed to a nearby hospital, Halifax Medical Center, following the accident. He previously won the big race in 2008.

Following the tragic incident, Fox Nascar reporter Mike Joy said,

Ryan Newman has been helped from his car by the AMR safety team. He’s been loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.

Fox Nascar co-host Jeff Gordon added,

Safety has come a long way in this sport, but sometimes we are reminded that it is a very dangerous sport. Thoughts and prayers are with Ryan Newman and his family.

Following the incident, his estranged wife, Krissie Newman, with who he had just parted ways, shared a tweet writing, "Omg."

The pair announced their split just days earlier; they have called it quits after 16 years of marriage. The former couple shares two daughters, Brooklyn Sage and Ashlyn Olivia, together.
