Matthew Gilmour is a White British man who came into limelight after he married American activist, Elizabeth Smart. Gilmour's wife founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which works for Internet Crimes Against Children.
Early life and education
Matthew Gilmour was born in 1996, to a Scottish father, Stewart Gilmour, and mother; Kay Gilmour. Both his parents were music teachers. Gilmour has three sisters; Chloe(18 years), Bethany(20 years), Ashlea(23 years), and a brother; Kyle (11 years)
Matthew grew up in a Christian family who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aberdeen' s North Anderson Drive. He is White in ethnicity and holds British nationality.
In July 2008, Gilmour's father, at the age of forty-eight, expired due to cancer. His father was recognized as a professional musician who played flugelhorn with a brass band.
Matthew's father served as the deputy headteacher at Aberdeen's St Machar Academy, before he died. Stewart got to know about his cancer just a few weeks before he passed away/
Gilmour's mother, Kay Gilmour is fifty years old and serves as the head of music at St Machar Academy. She also raises funds for CLAN Cancer Support.
Matthew Gilmour became popular after he tied the knot with American activist, Elizabeth Smart. She first came to national attention at THE the early age of fourteen, after she was kidnapped from her home in Salt Lake City.
Smart was kidnapped by Wanda Barzee and her husband, Brian David Mitchell, who kept her locked for nine months before she was rescued.
In 2011, Gilmour's wife founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, the organization works for Internet Crimes Against Children and spreads awareness to children about sexual crimes and violence.
Matthew Gilmour met Elizabeth in Paris for the first time, while they were on a Mormon mission trip. However, he didn't notice her as the kidnapped victim from the headlines. He said in an interview:
''I got to know her as she truly is. The thing that attracted to me the most to her- at the beginning and now- is how confident she is, especially considering everything she has been through.''
In Jan 2012, Matthew proposed Elizabeth with an engagement ring made of sapphire, on a hillside nearby Elizabeth's house.
''I just said very simply, Elizabeth Ann Smart, will you marry me?' and then I wasn't nervous'', Gilmour later revealed.
In 2012, Feb, Gilmour, and Smart became husband and wife in a secret ceremony on the north shore Oahu Hawaii. Since their marriage, the couple is living a joyful life and has a daughter, Choe Gilmour, born in Feb 2015.
