Masayori 'Masi' Oka is a Japanese-American actor, digital effects artist, music director, and producer. He gained worldwide fame for his role Hiro Nakamura on NBC's show Heroes (2006) and Doctor Max Bergman in CBS's Hawaii Five-0 (2010).

Early Life Of Masi Oka

Masi Oka was born on 27 December 1974, in Tokyo, Japan. He was born to the Japanese parents who divorced when he was just one month old. Following the divorce, he was raised by his mother and never saw his father again. He along with his mother moved to Los Angeles from Japan when he was six years old. 

At the age of eight, Oka appeared in the CBS-TV game show Child's Play. When he was 12, he featured on the cover of Time for an article Those Asian-American Whiz Kids.

Oka attended elementary school at The Mirman School and graduated high school from Harvard-Westlake School in 1992. In 1997 he graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics. He was also a musical director while at the University. 

Masi Oka's Career

Oka started his first job after graduating at George Luca's motion picture company named Industrial Light & Magic with a dream to earn an Oscar in the technical field. In 2000 Oka switched his profession to acting.  In the beginning, he got some small roles and advertisements. 

However, in 2006 Oka got his huge breakthrough when he got the role of Hiro Nakamura in Heroes. His portrayal of the role earned him nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor on a TV series and also the Primetime Emmy Award for Best supporting actor in a drama series. 

Furthermore, he also played a role of Bruce in the big screen version of Get Smart. In 2007, he presented an award with the co-star of Heroes, Hayden Panettiere on the 20th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. In 2015 he announced that he will reprise his role as Hiro Nakamura in NBC's Heroes Reborn.

He also worked as a producer for the movie Death Note in 2017.
