Lisa Daftari is an Iranian-American investigative journalist and commentator who worked for many news cable network and radio prior to joining the Fox News channel. Her works mainly focus on Middle East issues and foreign affairs. Currently, she is serving Fox News as a political analyst. She has been featured in a number of news channels and medias, including PBS, NBC, CBS, Voice of America, Washington Post, NPR, ABC. She is also the founder and Editor in Chief of the international news and U.S foreign policy news website— The Foreign Desk.
Lisa Daftari was born to Iranian Jews parents Sean and Simin Daftari in New Jersey. Her father is a college professor and physician, while her mother had a background in accounting and language. Along with her three siblings, she was raised in the suburb of New York City, Bergen County. Here, she was educated in a private school and completed her high schools. She then attended Rutgers University New Brunswick and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Spanish, Middle Easter studies, and vocal performance. She later received her Masters Degree in broadcast journalism from University of Southern California's Annenberg School of Journalism. During her time at ASJ, she was awarded a Presidential Merit Scholarship. Lisa is a bilingual woman who is fluent in Hebrew, Spanish, English, Persian and she is also an opera singer and pianist.
In 2006, while Lisa Daftari was a graduate student, she was invited to show her dissertation doc u mentary film about an underground Iranian political group, Marze Por Gohar to Congress. During that time, she served as an a s sociate producer in the investigative unit in Los Angeles-based NBC. While at NBC, she helped break the story about the 2005 Los Angeles bomb plot, in which an Islamist prison gang, Jamiyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh, planned to bomb an important Los Angeles sites.
After graduating in 2007, Lisa Daftari departed from NBC to work as a researcher for several think tanks focusing on the Middle East and counterterrorism. She attended several hearings on Iran divestment in the California State Assembly. In the fall of 2007, she delivered a 100-page report to the Pentagon about Iranian youth movements
In 2009, Daftari began appearing on the Fox News Channel commentating on developments in the Middle East and Iran, in particular. She now appears frequently on the network on various television and radio programs.
