Kirk Douglas was always a charitable guy and the Hollywood legend didn't end with his death. The Strange Love of Martha Ivers star, who pa s sed away on February 5, left the bulk of his $80 million fortune to the Douglas Foundation.
The organization is the same charity which he co-founded nearly six decades ago. The news was revealed on Sunday, February 23.
Douglas Foundation benefits the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and The Kirk and Anne Douglas Childhood Center. It also gives scholarships to underprivileged students to study at St. Lawrence University.
The Douglas Foundation, which Douglas and his wife Anne Beydens Douglas founded in 1964, also makes donations to Westwood’s Sinai Temple and Culver City’s Kirk Douglas Theater.
Douglas' wife Anne Buydens still serves for Douglas Foundation the nonprofit’s managing trustee. It’s unclear who will get the rest of his money (i.e. about $10 million).
As we previously reported, Michael Douglas announced the death of his father on February 5, with an emotional Instagram post. He was 103.
Alongside a series of Douglas' throwback photos, he wrote at the time,
It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103.
He was laid to rest at a funeral in Los Angeles.
