Synopsis
Kim Coates is a Canadian-American actor who has worked in both American and Canadian movies and television series. He is well known for portraying as Alexander Tig Trager on American crime drama television series Sons of Anarchy aired on FX channel.
Kim won an Action on Film International Film Festival Half-Life Award in 2009. He also won Canadian Screen Awards for best performance in a supporting role as Nominee.
Early life and Education
Kim Coates was born on February 21, 1958, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He belongs to white ethnicity and holds both American and Canadian nationality.
Kim is the son of Frederick J. Coates and Joyce Coates.
Kim joined the University of Saskatchewan, where he took drama course as an elective and graduated with BA in 1981. He conceded that he took dramatization by chance in University and, following two years, he knew that he wanted to be an actor.
Career
After his college, Kim Coates performed in various stage productions in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In 1986, Kim debut in Canadian biopic The Boy in Blue as McCoy Man No. 2. The next year, he appeared in Last Man Standing as Mr. Regan.
Kim portrayed the role of Gang Member in the American television crime drama series Miami Vice in 1987. The next year, he appeared in Canadian comedy film Palais Royale as Tony Dicarlo which released on 10 September 1988.
Kim appeared also on Canadian/American science-fiction television series War of the Worlds as Scott the same year.
Kim appeared in the movies, Dead Silence as Theodore 'Ted' Handy for which he was nominated for Gemini Awards for best performance in a featured supporting role. He even appeared in Poltergeist: The Legacy as Steven Romero for which he was nominated for Gemini Awards for best performance Actor in a Guest Role.
In 2008, Kim appeared on Sons of Anarchy Alexander "Tig" Trager along side with Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam, and others.
Personal life
Kim Coates married his girlfriend Diana Coates in 1988, and they are still together. Kim and his wife, Diana first met during a high-profile celebrity party and started dating after few months. The couple married after being in a relationship for some months.
The couple is blessed with two daughters Kyla Coates and Brenna Coates. They currently reside with their daughters in a house in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Kim is known to be good friends with actor Kevin Coster, William Fichtner as well as the American crime drama television series, Sons of Anarchy co-star Theo Rossi.
Kim took the citizenship of the United States in 2010.
