Kashmira Cooke is a younger sister of the late singer-songwriter, Freddie Mercury. Born and raised in a middle-class family, Cooke rose to the spotlight after her brother Mercury became the singing sensation as a Queen frontman.

Kashmira Cooke was born Kashmira Bulsara to father Bomi Bulsara and mother Jer Bulsara in Zanzibar, Tanzania (then British India) in 1952. Cooke was born to the Parsi parents from India. Her parents fled Tanzania during the Zanzibar Revolution and moved to Middlesex, England in 1964 when she was 12 years.
Cooke had a brother, Freddie Mercury (née Farrokh Bulsara) who was 6 years older to her. He died on 24 November 1991 at 45 from Bronchopneumonia as a complication of AIDS. As Zanzibar was a British protectorate until 1963, Cooke was born a British citizen.
Just after the death of her brother, her parents Nottingham from London said by Kashmira. As per her,
After Freddie died, my parents felt they wanted to be closer to the family, and therefore moved to Nottingham

Cooke's father, Bomi died in 2003 and mother, Jer passed "quietly and peacefully in her sleep" on November 2016.
