Joanna Pacula, stage and cinema actress, was born in Tomaszow Lubelski, a town in south-eastern Poland on 30 December 1957. Her mother was a pharmacist while his father was an engineer. She has one model sister named Ewa Pacula.
Joanna Pacula attended and graduated from Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre Academy in 1979. She then joined the Warsaw Dramatic Theater as an actress until 1981. She played in productions like 'Othello', Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'As You Like It'. She also appeared in a number of films including the 1980 Sergiu Nicolaescu's film 'Ultima noapte de dragoste' in Romania.
Joanna Pacula never returned Poland and migrated to America with legendary polish actress Elzbieta Czyzewska in 1982. She deeply fell in love with director Roman Polanski who introduced her as a model after she moved to the US. She was featured in Vogue magazine and subsequently landed her first ever lead role on Gorky in 1983.
Joanna Pacula's performance as a seductive Irina Asanova was critically praised and was placed in number 57 on Premiere magazine's 100 Greatest Performance of All Time in 2006. In 1997 she made an appearance in The Haunted Sea and in 1999, Joanna had a minor role is Virus, where she played as a Russian scientist.
