Gabrielle Monique Union Wade was born on October 29, 1972 in Omaha, Nebraska to mother,Theresa Gla s s who was a manager at a phone company and also a social worker, and to father, Sylvester E. Union who is a business executive and military sergeant. Gabrielle was raised in Pleasanton, California as a Catholic. Her parents divorced later after 30 years of union.

Gabrielle attended the University of Nebraska, where she played on the club soccer team. Later, was transferred to Cuesta College. Union ultimately transferred to UCLA and earned a degree in sociology. While studying in UCLA as a senior, Union interned at the Judith Fontaine Modeling & Talent Agency to earn extra academic credits. Union was then became interested in acting and thus began acting in minor roles. Union gave her first audition for "Saved by the Bell". Later she went on to appear in movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, She's All That, and Love & Basketball.

She gained prominence in 1997 when she appeared in the sixth-season episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – "Sons and Daughters" as the Klingon N'Garen. After coming into the lime light Gabrielle grabbed roles in Sister, Sister as Vanessa, in Smart Guy, in five episodes of 7th Heaven as character Keesha ,as the cheerleader in the film Bring It On, as a medical doctor in the CBS drama series . She pushed herself further more into the center stage after appearing in the hit film Bad Boys II. In the same year, Union starred in Deliver Us from Eva. Union was featured in the film Cadillac Records in 2008. She also appeared in the film version of Think Like a Man in 2012.She is noted for her character Mary Jane Paul in the 2013 film Being Mary Jane.

Union had dated former NBA player Jason Kidd while they were in high school. Gabrielle met future husband, NFL player Chris Howard at a party in 1999. They couple had an affair and declared that they were married on 5th May, 2001. However, they separated in October 2005. After their divorce was finalized in 2006, Union stayed single for long. Later in 2014 in Miami, she announced her wedding to NBA player Dwayne Wade. She does not have children of her own but is a step mother to Wade’s three sons.

Union is currently 42 years old, stands tall at the height of 5 feet 7 inches and has a perfect figure. In 2012 Union was identified as a suspicious person in the airport and was subjected to a patdown.She later joked about the incident on twitter. She has won two Black Reel Awards, one for Best Supporting Actress for Bring it On and the other for Best Ensemble for Cadillac Records. She has also received a Palm Beach International Film Festival: Best Actress for her role in Neo Ned and many other nominations for her various roles in numerous movies.
