Gabriela Sabatini is an Argentine former professional tennis player. She was one of the leading players in the late-1980s and early-1990s on the women's circuit. She has won various titles in her career including the women's singles title at the US Open in 1990. At the age of 26, she got retired from her playing career and pursued a career in the business sector. She promoted her lines of perfumes from where she earned an impressive amount.

Gabriel Sabatini was born on May 16, 1970, in Buenos Aires, Argentina under the birth sign Taurus. As per her bio-data, she is the daughter of Osvaldo Sabatini and Beatriz Garofalo Sabatini. Her father is an executive of General Motors. Her parents raised her with her elder brother, Osvaldo Sabatini Jr.

From the early age of 6, Sabatini was pa s sionate about tennis. She won her first tournament at the age of eight.  At the age of thirteen, in 1983 she gained her fame becoming the youngest player to win Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.

During her childhood days, she regarded herself as very introverted. Because of her behavior and lack of self-confidence she was not able to come to the surface. Her major big problem was her shyness.

Sabatini was very competitive from her childhood but because of nervousness, she used to lose many matches. But she never gave her due to her determination and pa s sion for tennis she gets over her nervousness and rose to fame.

Moreover, Sabitini also used to lose matches to avoid reporters and the limelight. She thought that she had to speak in front of the ma s s, if she won the tournament so, she deliberately lost the matches. 

Gabriel Sabatini's Career

Sabatini started her career as a junior to the tennis world's attention. She began playing tennis at the age of six and won her first tournament at the age of eight. She successfully became the youngest player to win the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida in 1983. The following year, she won six major international titles which helped her to rank World's No. 1 junior.

Sabitini has been awarded different titles such as the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon in 1988. Another one is in 1988 and 1994 where she was two Year-End Champions. She also received a silver medal in the Olympic Games in 1988.

In the early 1980s and 1990s, she was one of the leading players on the women’s circuit. Similarly, in 1990, she also has won the women’s singles title at the US Open.

In 1990, Sabitini made her Grand Slam singles final where she defeated Isabelle Demongeot, Helena Sukova, Lelia Meskhi, and Kathy Jordan among others. The following year, she won five tournaments only in the first half of the year. 

On 14th October 1996, Sabatini played her last professional singles match but lost to Jennifer Capriati in the first round. On 19th October 1996, she played her last professional match. The same year, she retired from the professional tour after winning 27 singles titles and 14 doubles titles. 

 

 

Two years later, she was ranked number 3 in the World rank and also won Diamond Konex Award in Argentina. Moreover, in 2006, she was honored by the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Besides, Sabatini launched a line of fragrances partnering with Muelhens, the German perfume company.  It became such a hit at that time. One of the top-seller was her signature scent which was debuted in 1989 in Bruhl in West Germany.

Along with being a player and a businesswoman, she is also a motivational author. In 1992, she published a motivational book named, My Story which includes her background and an inspiration to become a tennis player.

Similarly, in the year 1988, Prince Albert encountered her and eventually fell for one another. The President of the US, Donald Trump is next on the list. The pair started dating in 1989 but separated soon.

In 1992, Sabatini dated a singer, Ricky Martin for five months. She described her relationship with Martin as the "craziest love" of her life. Moreover, she was in a relationship with multiple guys including Mickey Rourke, Leo Montero, Henri Leconte, and Michael Bolton among others. 

In those days Sabatini went through several miserable breakups which affect her life. This might be the reason behind her being unmarried to the date. But now, she says that she doesn’t want to have a boyfriend or husband anymore and focus on her game and career only. 

There have been rumors in the media about her being a lesbian. Sabatini was spotted with her girlfriend many times. They were seen on vacations enjoying. She was also rumored to be in a relationship with her friend, Lujan Grisolia. The pair, however, has not revealed anything regarding their dating life.

Besides, Sabatini works with several organizations to help children and people with low economic backgrounds. She is also involved in campaigns for UNESCO, UNICEF, and the Special Olympics.
