Argentine-born professional footballer, Gabriel Iván Mercado plays for Spanish club Sevilla FC and the Argentine national team. He mainly plays as a right back and also could play as a central defender.
He started his career from the Racing Club and played for other clubs such as Estudiantes LP, River Plate, and Sevilla. He joined Sevilla in 2016, for €2.5 million.

Gabriel Iván Mercado was born on March 18, 1987, in Puerto Madryn, Argentina. He is Argentine as far his nationality and belongs to mixed ethnicity.
Mercado made his professional debut in February 2007 from the Racing club. He played his first match for the club on 21st February against San Lorenzo that ended with a 0-1 home defeat.
He joined Estudiantes de La Plata in July 2010, for $800,000 and 50% of his rights. He won the Apertura in his debut season and stayed at the club until 2012. He signed for River Plate in July 2012 and played for the club until 2016.
Mercado joined La Liga side Sevilla FC on August 4, 2016. He signed a three-year deal with the club for a reported of $2.9 million (€2.5 million approx.), with River retaining 20% of a subsequent transfer fee. He was signed by manager Jorge Sampaoli replacing former captain Coke.
On 20 September, he scored his first goal for the team deflecting Samir Nasri's free kick for the only one in a home Seville derby victory over Real Betis.
Mercado represented the nation’s Under-20 team at the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay and at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
He made his full international debut for the Argentine national team after being called up to join Maradona’s squad of Argentine-based players who defeated Jamaica 2-1 on February 10, 2010.
He was the first-choice in his position for Argentina in the 2016 Copa America Centenario squad, playing in the final game against Chile for the full 120 minutes that ended with a 4-2 loss on penalties. He was named in Argentina’s preliminary 35 man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in May 2018.
