British-American writer Arthur Edmund Morris aka Edmund Morris, widely known for his biographies of American Presidents like Ronald Reagan and Theodore Roosevelt, has died at the age of 78.
Edmund died on Friday, 24th May 2019, in Danbury, Connecticut. Though the exact reason behind his death is not disclosed, sources have reported that he was admitted at the hospital after suffering a stroke on Thursday.
Edmund was a master of biographical literature who won the 1980 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography. He also won 1980 National Book Award for biography for his first book entitled The Rise Of Theodore Roosevelt.
Edmund published his controversial work Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Regan which was written in an experimental style. Starting in 1985, he had been granted to allow an interview with the President, First Lady, and their children.
Edmund wrote the biography to include a fictional Edmund Morris who was added to narrative as an observer and one of Ronald’s childhood friends. The book had a life journey of Ronald from his childhood to the journey to White House.
Edmund was born on May 27, 1940, in Nairobi, Kenya, as the son of South African parents.
Speaking of Edmund’s personal life, he was married to Sylvia Jukes Morris. The couple got married in 1968. He is survived by his wife, brother Eric, and sister Judy Davidowitz.
