Diedre Hall is an American Actress best known for her roles as Dr. Marlena Evans on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. In 2017, she appeared in the mini TV series Great News alongside Briga Heelan, Andrea Martin, Adam Campbell and other stars.
Early Life and Education
Hall was born on October 31, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the United States and raised in Lake Worth, Florida. She has four siblings, including a twin sister Andrea Hall, who is also a soap opera actress and a cast of ‘Days of Our Lives’ too.
She attended Lake Worth High School in 1965 and, after graduating, studied psychology at Palm Beach Junior College. Later, she sidetracked into acting, which turned out to at quite successful.
Deidre Hall’s first appearance in the public media dates back to 1952, when she and her twin sister, Andrea, appeared in press materials for the 1952 Hudson Twin-H-Power engine.
While attending college, she went to Los Angeles for the summer, where she landed some modeling jobs and commercials through an agent. She quickly began appearing in television shows, thinking it as a temporary job as she had a serious career as a psychologist.
Later, she realized that she was more cut out to be an actress instead.
Career
Hall’s first appearance in a television show was in 1970 when she appeared in a single episode called ‘We Once Came Home to Parades’ in the series ‘San Francisco International Airport’.
She then appeared in numerous TV shows and movies including Night Gallery, Adam-12, The Streets of San Francisco, Emergency!, Kung Fu, Karen, S.W.A.T, among others.
Deidre Hall featured in the NBC soap opera ‘Days of Our Lives’ as Dr. Marlena Evans in 1976. The actress was unsure about pursuing her career in soap opera as she wasn’t confident that she could stand up against established soap opera veterans for the role.
Her role, however, skyrocketed to fame. There were even fan protests when a 1979 NBC promo hinted that Hall's character would be killed off. She was cast in the series from 1976-1987, 1991-2009 and 2011-2017, a total of 40 years.
Personal Life
Deidre has married four times. She was first married to William Hudson in 1966. The marriage lasted four years and in 1972, she got married to Keith Barbour, which lasted for five years. In 1987, she married for the third time with Michael Dubelko.
They split up in 1989. She then married Steve Sohmer in 1991 and divorced after having two children with him.
In addition to this, Hall has appeared in other productions too, such as Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Hot Pursuit, Our House (as Jessica ‘Jessie’ Witherspoon in 46 episodes), Wiseguy, Women of the House, and more.

Deidre Hall has won multiple awards for her portrayal of Dr. Marlena. She won two Best Actress Soapy Awards in 1982 and 1983 and three Soap Opera Digest Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1984, 1985, and 1995.
She is the first recipient of the Outstanding Contribution by an Actress/Actor Award in 1986. Moreover, she was also voted Best Actress twice by the Soap Opera Update Awards in 1994 and 1995.
She has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy three times but hasn't won any. She currently has a net worth of $12 million. She has a lavish house in Southern California.
