Danny Schayes

Inside Biography

Daniel Leslie ‘Danny’ Schayes was born on 10th May 1959 in Syracuse, New York to a Jewish family. He is the son of Naomi Eva and Dolph Schayes who is a Hall of Famer and a well known retired professional basketball player himself.

Danny attended Jamesville-DeWitt High School located in DeWitt, New York. He enthusiastically began playing basketball while there and went on to score 1012 points. Danny then joined Syracuse University and continued playing basketball. He averaged nearly 12 points and 284 rebounds while there.

His pro career in basketball began in 1981 when he announced that he was ready to be drafted in the NBA 1981. He was selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round as 13th overall pick. Then, from 1981 to 1983, Danny played for Utah Jazz. Later in 1983 he went on to play for Denver Nuggets. While in Denver Nuggets, Danny went on attain his NBA’s career high with 13.9 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game. He played excellently with the Nuggets till he was waived off in 1990.

Later in the same year he went to play for Milwaukee Bucks. After many seasons with the Bucks, Danny was waived off in 1994. In the same year Danny went on to play for Los Angeles Lakers. However, Danny did not play many seasons and was waived off very quickly. Then he went on to play for Phoenix Suns till 1995. After playing a few seasons with the Suns, Danny was waived off in 1995. Later he went on to play with Miami Heat and was waived off in 1996 shortly. Danny went on to end his NBA career by finally playing with Orlando Magic till 1999 when he was waived off. Overall in his NBA career Danny went on to average a total of 7.7 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 0.7 a s sists per game.Danny is currently running No Limit Investment.  

Danny married Wendy Lucero-Schayes who happens to be well known former Olympic diver. The couple live together happily  with no reported signs of dispute. They have never had any extra marital affairs. The couple has a son named Logan who is aspiring to become a journalist.

Danny is currently 55 years old, weights 107 kg and is 6 feet 11 inches which helped him a lot during his basketball career. More recently,Danny wrote a column, Fast Broke : Why NBA players Go Broke which spoke about the real reason behind the NBA players' ruined lives even after having a huge salary and networth. He gathered a gold medal for United States in the Maccabiah Games in the 1977 Maccabiah Men’s Basketball.  Danny was induced to the Jamesville-Dewitt High School athletic Hall of Fame in 1989. Danny was also named Best Male athlete to hail from CNY in 2000 by the Post Standard. He was added also to the Syracuse University All-Century Basketball team and Hall of Fame and as he is a Jewish, Danny is a member of the New York Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. He is respected a lot due to his basketball abilities.
