Dan Gilroy is an American screenwriter and film director best known for writing and directing the 2014 thriller “Nightcrawler” starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Early Life and Education

The proficient screenwriter was born on June 24, 1959, in California, U.S. to Ruth Dorothy and Frank D. Gilroy. He holds American nationality and belongs to White American ethnicity.

Frank was famous for winning the Pulitzer Prize and Ruth was a sculptor and a writer. He has a brother named Tony Gilroy who is the famous screenwriter and a director and has a fraternal twin brother named John Gilroy who is a film editor.

Dan grew up in New York and attended Washingtonville High school and later on graduated from Dartmouth College in 1981.

Career

The talented screenwriter started his career by writing the script for the 2005 gambling drama entitled “Two for the Money” starring AI Pacino and Rene Russo. Previously, he also co-wrote a science fiction thriller “Freejack” which was followed by Dennis Hopper.

Glory also contributed to the unmade Superman film, Superman Lives and later on appeared in the doc u mentary film The Death of “Superman Lives” What Happened? He also made his directional debut with “NIghtcrawler” and wrote the screenplay for which he was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The rea s suring writer is set to write the upcoming comic strip adventure entitled “The Annihilator.”

Personal Life

The 58-years-old writer was married to one of the popular actress Rene Russo in 1992. They both have a daughter together named Rose, who was born in 1993.

Glory was one of Madonna’s first boyfriends and taught her to play guitar.
