A legendary TV pioneer Angela Rippon is an English television presenter, newsreader, writer and presenter serving the BBC Network. She is the first female journalist who worked permanently in BBC presenting the national television news. Besides, Angela Rippon is also an author. She has written fourteen books. She has also appeared in the different TV shows as a presenter including Top Gear, Come Dancing, Cash in the Attic, Amazing Grays and many other.

Early Life

Angela Rippon was born on 12 October 1944 in Plymouth, Devon, England in a working cla s s family. Her father John was a Royal Marine and mother Edna worked at Lawley's, a fine china company and was also a seamstress. She went to girl’s grammar school in Plymouth. Her father and mother both suffered from dementia in their old age.

Career

Angela Rippon started working at the age of 17 after she left the school. She worked for Western Morning News, Sunday Independent and later BBC local radio and Westward Television as an editor. Rippon started her television career joining at BBC South West in 1966. She first presented a national news program on BBC2 in 1974. She became the first female television newsreader after she got the role of news reading on BBC One’s Nine O’Clock News.

With BBC, she has a long relation. Angela Rippon has spent more than five decades with BBC. She has a lot of experience with BBC. She has hosted several of the programs. She is an active presenter despite her age. In April 2016, she co-presented the two part of BBC One series How to Stay Young.

Other Involvement

Angela Rippon wrote a series of children’s book about a character called “Victoria Plum” which is based on a fairy tale. She has written keep-fit guides for older people including Stay Active, Stay Supple, and Stay Healthy. Angela Rippon is a patron of Old Time Dance Society. She was appointed the Chair of English National Ballet.

She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Plymouth University in 2012. Recently in 2017, she received the 2017 New Year Honors as Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to dementia care.

Seventy-one years old Angela Rippon is a very strong and determined person. She doesn't want to grow old as it is but want to take most of the days she will have remained like most of the youth says. She still loves to wear leather trousers and does an awesome split. She plays an hour of tennis every morning. Angela Rippon is an example of an organized and self-motivated woman.
