British-Lebanese barrister Amal Clooney, who is specializing in international law and human rights, spoke up at the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London.

In the speech, Clooney did not directly call out President Trump’s name but referred the fourth president of the United States, James Madison, who emphasized the importance of free press early in the nation’s history.

Clooney said:

Today, the country of James Madison has a leader who vilifies the media, making honest journalists all over the world more vulnerable to abuse.

Clooney then continued saying that with authoritarianism, isolationism, and nationalism gaining ground, the relevance of international institutions and respect for norms are seriously in a big question mark.

Remarking the death of the Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Clooney said that the world leaders responded with little more than a collective shrug. Jamal was killed after he walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Well, this is not the first time Clooney spoke up against President Trump. Back in December, Clooney made similar remarks about press freedom at United Nations Correspondents Association Awards in New York.

During that time, Clooney slammed President claiming that he had given autocratic regimes the green light and has labeled the press as the enemy of the people.
