Unfortunately during a concert, on July 26, 2012, he revealed that the cancer had come back in time. In 2014 while performing in Zacatecas he publicly acknowledged his battle with cancer.

In the weeks leading up to his passing, Sebastian confirmed being hospitalized for cancer treatment under care. On July 13 2015 at the age of 64, he passed away at his ranch in Teacalco Guerrero, Mexico due to bone cancer.

He was laid to rest in a cemetery, near Juliantla alongside his son Trigo. In July 2020 concerns were raised when there were reports of someone breaking into Sebastian's mausoleum. This led to increased security measures to fears of theft of his remains.
