Trevor McDonald is a Trinidadian-born British news anchor and journalist. He is a former news anchor of leading networks like BBC and ITV. He started his broadcasting career in the 1960s.

Trevor’s journalism career

In the 1960s, he started working as paint and broadcast journalist in his home country. After some years, BBC offered him the job of a program producer for BBC radio London. Then, he moved to London and started serving for the agency. 

In 1973, he joined ITV News and started working as a general reporter. Later, he became a sportscaster for the agency but ultimately concentrated on international politics. In the 1980s, he worked for the ITV-owned Channel 4 news and returned in 1989, presenting early-evening news.

In 1992, ITV promoted him as the solo presenter of the News at 10 and became a well-known face on the British TV screens. The show named News at 10 came to the end in 1999 and he joined another show named Evening News in ITV. 

News at Ten was briefly re-launched in January 2001 and Trevor returned as a presenter. Later, he became the presenter of News at 10.30 after the News at Ten’s second axing. In 1999, he started hosting ITV’s flagship current affairs program Tonight with Trevor McDonald.

He hosted the show for six years and the show revived in 2010 with presenter Julie Etchingham. In 2005, he retired from his broadcasting career and started making doc u mentaries for ITV.

However, after two years, he returned to the broadcasting and covered the US presidential election 2008. Then, Mark Austin replaced him and he retired from his newscasting job.

Since then, he has been working actively and making doc u mentaries for the ITV. He also made doc u mentary in the life of famous people like Mike Tyson and many others.

The former news anchor has also appeared in numerous TV shows like Under Cover Costumes, Saturday Night Takeaway, The Games and many others.

Trevor has even published six books which include two autobiographies of legend cricketers Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd.
