Tyra Ferrell is a Hollywood Actress who is famous for her roles in the film Boyz n the Hood in 1991. She burst into the Hollywood with a minor role in a comedy film So fine in 1981. Before making big screen debut, she played in a number of theater and stage shows.

Ferrell has worked in numerous films, TV series and Broadways including White Men Can’t Jump, Poetic Justice, The Perfect Score, City and The Corner. In 2018, she made a guest appearance in a police drama series Chicago P.D.

Early Life And Education Of Tyra Ferrell

Tyra Ferrell was born on January 28, 1968, in Houston, Texas. She is an American by nationality and is of African American ethnicity. She graduated from her high school studies while staying in Houston and later moved to New York after the graduation.

Ferell was always interested in acting and had a pa s sion for it but her mother didn't support it, that is until she saw Tyra perform in a Shakespearean play. 

Tyra Ferrell is a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in English and drama education.

Tyra Ferrell's Career

After moving to New York,  Tyra Ferell began her career in acting as a stage performer. She appeared on Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music and Ain’t Misbehavin on Broadway.

It was in 1981 that Tyra Ferell made her screen debut with the comedy film So Sine, opening the door to acting in several other television projects including Lady Beware, School Daze, The Exorcist III and The Mighty Quinn.

Ferell guest-starred in The Twilight Zone, Quantum Leap, and Hill Street Blues. She became a regular cast of a short-lived CBS sitcom City as Valerie Harper in 1990.

Tyra Ferrell made her debut in films as a supporting actress in 1991 She has done several movies including Boyz n the Hood, Jungle Fever, Equinox, The Perfect Score and many others.

Tyra Ferrell took a break from her acting career in the mid-2000s and later made her come back in 2015 in Boxed In as Gayle and in Empire as Roxanne Ford.

Kamau is a civil rights activist; he investigates the abuses and misconducts by the police to the civilians. Tyra Ferell got married to Diop Kamau on 9 April 1992. The couple has a daughter, Amina Kamau. Tyra took a hiatus from her professional life for a while because of daughter Amina.
