At Least Two People Killed In A Series Of Chain-Reaction Vehicle Crash In I-5, Lodi

• Two people died after seven vehicles crashed and at least one vehicle caught fire on Interstate 5.

Two people died after seven vehicles crashed and at least one vehicle caught fire on Interstate 5 Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol confirmed.

The accident occurred around 7:30 in the northbound lanes of I-5 near the Highway 12 ramp.

The cause of the deadly fire is yet to be revealed, but CHP confirmed the crash involved seven vehicles including one pick-up truck, one SUV, one car, and four big trucks-at least one of the vehicles caught fire.

The series of chain-reaction crashes closed all northbound lanes from Eight Mile Road to Highway 12 for hours. The CHP reported the left lane of traffic reopened before noon while the other two lanes were reopened just before 2 p.m.

Later Thursday, CHP's Stockton office took to its social media announcing there were "multiple casualties." 

According to The Sacramento Bee, the CHP incident logs showed at least four big rigs involved in the crash in which one sedan caught fire initially. Later, two big rigs also caught fire.
