Tig Notaro was born as Mathilde O'Callaghan Notaro on March 24, 1971, in Jackson, Mississippi, US. She is the daughter of Pat Notaro and Mathilde Susie O'Callaghan. She spent her early years in Pa s s Christian, Mississippi but, later on, her family moved to Spring, Texas. Notaro has an older brother, Renaud Notaro, who is a radio talk show host. Renaud was the one who gave her the nickname "Tig" when she was two years old.
Notaro hated school so she dropped out of high school. However, she received her GED (General Educational Development), which is equivalent to the US or Canadian High School-Level Academic Skills in 1990. Since childhood, she was an avid music lover. She played the guitar and the drums and was part of several bands in her childhood.
