Three people died in a deadly gas station explosion in Virginia on Friday, 10th May; four sustained a severe injury in the blast.
The Virginia State Police confirmed three died from the debris at the South River Market & Gas Station in Buena Vista, Virginia.
Authorities revealed the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office and Fire-Rescue team responded to reports of an explosion at the gas station shortly after 9:30 Friday morning.
The wounded were taken to the Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington City for treatment. Their condition is unknown.
Initially, the officers found two bodies at the scene, however, the death toll raised after they discovered the remains of a third individual, Saturday. The remains were taken for the autopsies in Roanoke. State police said after the initial investigation that the incident didn't appear suspicious.
Russell Williams, a nearby resident, said he felt the explosion from his farm. He added,
Immediately it was just a big ball of fire. The roof blew off the store and went to the right of the store, and then the trusses blew up and went to the front of the store.
The Nearby elementary school was evacuated Friday after the explosion, said the Rockbridge County School Board.
