The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach revealed that the oldest southern sea otter died at the age of 22 on 22nd April, Monday.

Basically, the male southern sea otters only live from 10 years to 14 years in the wild.

Twenty-two years old Charlie celebrated his last birthday last month eating colorful seafood cupcakes. He has helped sea otters by being a part of the study on how the animals perceive sound.

On the other side, the female sea otter, Brook died of congestive heart failure in January. She was 21 years old.

California’s sea otters are considered to be endangered. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, hunting nearly wiped them out.

After a lot of conservation efforts have increased and brought the population to around 3000 but otters still are in danger because of pollution and habitat loss.
