Synopsis
Stone Phillips is a news correspondent as well as a journalist, best known as the co-anchor of Dateline NBC, a news-magazine show. He also served as the anchor on the NBC Nightly News and Today and as a substitute moderator on Meet the Press.
Phillips was honored with the Emmy Award for his Outstanding Interview.
Early life and education
Stone Phillips was born as Stone Stockton Phillips December 2, 1954, in Texas City, Texas, U.S. He belongs to Scottish ethnicity and holds an American nationality.
Phillips is the son of Victor Phillips who is a Monsanto chemical engineer and Grace Phillips who is a school teacher. He has two siblings, Brother Victor and sister Minta who were raised in the Claymont section of Ballwin, Missouri, in the Greater St. Louis area.
Phillips went to the Parkway West High School where he was the quarterback of the football team. Later, he joined the Yale University where he outshone in both athletic and academic career.
Before graduating from the University, he was medaled with F. Gordon Brown Award for his outcla s s educational and sporty performance.
Career
Stone Phillips is active as reporter and correspondent since 1986. After his graduation, Phillips moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he severed as a remedial reading and math teacher at the Fulton County Juvenile Detention Center.
Phillips then started working at the local NBC affiliate, WXIA-TV. ABC News hired him as an a s signment editor for its Washington, D.C., news bureau.
Phillips worked for about 12 years in ABC News then joined the NBC News to serve as co-anchor with Jane Pauley on Dateline NBC. Additionally, he also hosted Weekend Magazine with Stone Phillips in NBC News.
Philips, who was co-anchoring the Dateline NBC ended on 2 July 2007 when NBC did not renew his $7 million contracts. In 2012, Phillips contributed to PBS the NewsHour report and reported on golf course water usage for The Golf Channel in 2013.
Personal life
Stone Phillips married former successful fashion designer, Debra Phillips designer who holds masters degree in Psychology. Before getting married this couple dated for several years.
The couple has one child, a son Streeter Phillips, born in 1988. His wife Debra also gave birth to a daughter, in August 1995 who was born 13 weeks early, unfortunately, died the same day.
Phillipss brother is a biologist, whereas his sister Minta is a retired radiologist, residing in North Carolina.
