Stana Katic

Stana Katic is a Canadian-American film and television actress who has played Kate Beckett on the ABC television romantic crime series Castle (2009–2016) and Agent Emily Byrne in the thriller series Absentia (2017–).

Stana Katic is a TV actress and a model who was born on April 26, 1978, in Canada but works and lives in the United States. She was born in Hamilton of Canada to immigrant parents; father Petar and mother Rada Kati?, who were originally Yugoslavian but lived in Croatia.

Born as the fourth out of five children, the family migrated to Canada where she was born but soon moved to Illinois in Chicago where she was brought up. But her childhood was spent between Canada and the United States, as she was constantly moving around.

With a mixed European ancestry, she describes her parent’s origin to have been from Serbia. In an interview, she said “My parents are Serbs from Croatia. I call us Dalmatian because that's the part of the planet that we are originally from. I have Serb, Croat and even a handful of Montenegrin family members”. She is a Christian by religion and possesses the nationality of both Canada as well as the United States of America.

Raised in the vicinity of Hamilton in Canada and Aurora in the States, she did her schooling from West Aurora High School. A decent and disciplined student, she was bullied because of her height till the 8th grade. Later she came up with her own anti-bullying tactics, which she believed was effective during that time.

She always wanted to become a model from her childhood days and after graduating her school in 1996, studied at the University of Toronto for a couple of years. After completing her studies there in 2000, she immediately joined the DePaul University Goodman School of Drama for a couple of years till 2002.  She also took acting lessons at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
