Former World Number One, Serena Williams Reaches 10th US Open Finals Of Her Career

  • Serena Williams reached US Open's finals on Thursday night beating Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in the semi-final.
  • Williams won the Thursday night's match in a straight set of 6-3 and 6-0.
  • She will now face Japanese Naomi Osaka who became the first Japanese to reach any Grand Slam final beating American Madison Keys in the semi-finals.
  • If Williams wins the final, she would tie the record of the most single grand slams, 24, with Australian Margaret Court.

American tennis star, Serena Williams into the US Open Finals!

The 36-year-old tennis player, who gave birth to her daughter last September, is just one game away from winning her 24th Grand Slam titles, a record for women in singles.

Williams will face Japanese Naomi Osaka in the finals on Saturday, 8th September. Williams thrashed Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, in the semi-final in straight set of 6-3 and 6-0 on Thursday night.

"It is really incredible", said Williams after the match. She further added,

A year ago I was literally fighting for my life at the hospital after having the baby. Every day I step out on this court I am so grateful to have an opportunity to play this sport.

On the other hands Osaka, the first Japanese to reach the grand slam finals, says Williams is her idol and she grew up watching her playing in the court. Osaka confirmed her place in the finals beating Madison Keys in the semi-finals in a straight 6-2, 6-4 sets.

This is the ninth US Open finals for the former world no. 1, where she had grabbed 6 titles in her previous 8 appearances. If she wins the Saturday's battle against Osaka at the Arthur Ashe court, New York, she will tie Margaret Court's record of 24th Grand Slam singles titles.

This July, Williams lost the Wimbledon Finals to German Angelique Kerber. Later in the month, Williams suffered the most lopsided match of her career where she lost the match in 6-1 and 6-0 sets to British Johanna Konta.
