Samuel Gelfman, who had produced the low-budget movies like Cannonball!, Caged Heat, and Cockfighter, has died at the age of 88.

Samuel died on 15th August, Thursday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering complications from heart and respiratory disease. It was his son Peter Gelfman (a New York-based property master) announced the tragic news to The Hollywood Reporter.

Samuel’s former wife Jane Rosenberg Gelfman, children; Peter, Andrew, and Polly Gelfman and grandchildren; Juliet, Max, and Elijah were the survivors.

Samuel served as a vice president at the United Artists and a film buyer for Cartrivision and later joined ranks with Corman and produced Caged Heat and Cockfighter in 1974. He also produced movie Cannonball! which was directed by Paul Bartel starring David Carradine.

Samuel established the Australian film office in Los Angeles and movies like The Last Wave, My Brilliant Career, Newsfront, and Mad Max.

He then partnered with James G. Robinson to create a new production company where he worked tirelessly but fruitlessly before semi-retiring in the late ‘80s.

Samuel was born Samuel William Gelfman on 30th May 1931, as the youngest of two boys of his parents. He was born in Brooklyn and raised in Caldwell, New Jersey. He graduated with a degree in architecture from Princeton University in 1953.
