Roger Guenveur Smith was born on 27th of July, 1955 in Berkeley, California, United States of America. His father Sherman Smith was a judge and his mother Helen Guenveur was a dentist. He grew up in Berkeley. To receive early education, he attended Occidental College in Los Angles.
Career and path
After graduating from Occidental College, Roger Guenveur Smith joined Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut to receive further education.
Roger Guenveur Smith professional acting career took off since Roger Guenveur Smith since the mid-1980s. He appeared in the role of Pinter, Ionesco, Shakespeare, and Dickens in Minneapolis and at the New Shakespeare festival. His films include Poetic Justice; Do the Right Thing, King of New York, Panther, Malcolm X, School Daze, He Got Game, Summer of Sam and Eve’s Bayou. He has a recurring role in the 1990s film A Different world.
Roger Guenveur Smith received an Obie Award for his one-man theater performance based on the life of Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton. He wrote and produced it himself. It was later filmed by Spike Lee and released in the year 2001. He had a starring role in the Steven George Clooney TV series K-Street on HBO.
