  • Jacqui Saburido, popular as the member of the anti-drunk driving campaign died at 40.
  • She was battling cancer for a long time and pa s sed away on Saturday, 22nd April in Guatemala.
  • After she got into the severe crash in 199, she underwent 120 surgeries, however, she was still left severely disfigured.
  • The accident killed two of her friends and later Reggie Stephey who was driving a vehicle being drunk was found guilty of two deaths while intoxicated and was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Jacqui Saburido, a popular face of anti-drunk and drive campaign has died. Saburido rose to the media after she suffered life-threatening burns in 1999 crash.

She died on Saturday, April 20, 2019, in Guatemala at the age of 40, her family reported. Saburido relocated to Guatemala several years ago in order to get better treatment of her cancer.

The Texas state agency tweeted Monday following the death news was announced. It wrote: "TABC [Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission] is saddened to learn of the pa s sing of Jacqui Saburido." Here is the post:

After Saburido successfully battled the fierce burn back in 1999, she became an advocate against drunken driving. She was just 20 when she got into the horrible crash in Austin, Texas. She was traveling in a vehicle together with three friends when another vehicle, Reggie Stephey's SUV, plowed into her car.

Their car caught fire with Saburido stuck in the front pa s senger seat. She burnt in the flames for around a minute before paramedics were able to douse the fire and pull her out of the vehicle. Saburido was left severely disfigured even after 120 surgeries.

Her two friends died in the accident. Stephey who was on the wheel of the SUV was later charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and later in 2001, she was convicted of her crime and was sent to seven years in prison.
