An Indonesian woman was mauled to death by a pet crocodile after the woman fell into its enclosure on the island of Sulawesi, officials reported on Wednesday, 16th January.

The woman identified as Deasy Tuwo, 44, had been feeding the giant 700 kg crocodile when she fell into the pond on Thursday, 10th January. The crocodile that was named "Merry" was believed to have bitten off Tuwo's arms and most part of her abdomen.

BBC reported that Ms. Tuwo, who was head of the laboratory at the pearl farm, was discovered by her colleague next morning, 11th January.

Hendrik Rundengan, the spokesman for the local conservation agency told AFP,

We've come here a few times but the fences are always locked.

Mr. Rundengan also said of the woman's death as:

The indication is that she fell into the crocodile's enclosure.
