An Oregon man was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 25-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son he fathered, confirmed multiple outlets.

Michael John Wolfe, a 52-year-old married man, was arrested and indicted on the presumed kidnapping and murder of Karissa Fretwell and their son William. The mother-son duo had been missing from Salem, Oregon since May 13.

The Oregon police announced on Friday that John was arrested in Portland. The authorities also clarified the charges don't mean the woman and her son are dead, however, they considered there was sufficient cause to warrant the arrest.

Salem Police Department Lt. Treven Upkes said in a press release:

Everybody involved in this case continues to hope for a safe return for Karissa and William.

Fretwell and William were reported missing on 17th May, four days after they went missing.

Officials said Wolfe is a married man, however, he wasn't married to Fretwell. The Statesman Journal reported Wolfe's paternity to William was established after a DNA test. His relationship with the woman is not clear yet, however, a friend of Fretwell said they had been in a relationship since they started working together at a McMinnville steel mill.

Before Wolfe's arrest, police conducted an extensive investigation on Wolfe's home in Gaston for several days. Wolfe remains behind the bar without any bail.
