US athlete and Olympic cycling medalist, Kelly Catlin died due to an apparent suicide on Friday, 8th March, reported Associated Press. She was 23 years.

Catlin won a silver medal with the women's pursuit team at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. As per the tabloids, Catlin was found dead at her campus residence at Stanford University in California on Friday.

Confirmed his daughter died of suicide

Her father, Mark Catlin confirmed his daughter died of suicide to the cycling magazine Velo News. The bereaved father told,

There isn’t a minute that goes by that we don’t think of her and think of the wonderful life she could have lived

He continued,

There isn’t a second in which we wouldn’t freely give our lives in exchange for hers. The hurt is unbelievable.

USA Cycling chief executive Rob DeMartini said "The entire cycling community is mourning this immense loss" in a statement released to AP.

He further said,

We are offering continuous support to Kelly’s teammates, coaches and staff. We also encourage all those who knew Kelly to support each other through the grieving.

Catlin was pursuing a graduate degree at Stanford University in computational and mathematical engineering.
